Scanning and Plaster Technician, Castable Ceramics, Anchorage, AK 2014

Responsible for operating two simultaneous 3D scanners and evaluating the quality of digital images for dental laboratory. I was also trained in casting, trimming, cleaning and articulating dental plaster molds. The tools and processes I learned here have many applications in art studios, digital labs, and casting applications.

Temporary Technician in Ceramics, University of Alaska Anchorage, Anchorage, AK 2013

Upgraded two university ceramics facilities with installation of new clay mixer, air compressor, digital image library, vinyl cutter, new photo background system. Coordinated with University administration for welding and electrical projects, facilities repair and budget. Managed inventory, ordering and delivery of studio materials shipped from Seattle. In addition to maintaining all studio equipment, I was advisor to student clay club organizing travel, activities and large pottery sale fundraiser.

Fired a three-chambered wood kiln built during the spring concentration, focusing on natural-ash glazes. I learned advanced methods of construction, surface treatment and firing. Conversations and demonstrations addressed abstract-expressive sculpture, contemporary ceramic history and efficient studio practices.

Worked closely with five other residents to become innovative, professional artists. We organized our own critiques with established artists and each-other, traveled to museums and exhibitions, installed artwork in the gallery, proposed group shows, participated in local craft fairs, assisted with classes and studio operations and contributed to the creative atmosphere of the center. My projects included constructing and outfitting a photography room and creating a network of resident artist alumni.
