Quarry: moving clay

Quarry: residue

Materials: water, raw clay from the Chesapeak Bay, plastic packaging, Metal table frame, hardware, performer

Clay, water, light and architecture interact to reveal a system in this work. Concrete and brick walls set below ground level are the manufactured versions of earth, defining this subterranean space. Clay from the outlet of the local watershed is slowly softened by a trickle of water, seeping from a container fashioned from discarded packaging and rusty table frame. The built and the natural work together, all re-cycling. Extraction, infill, retention, secretion, all support each other in opposition, defining their roles. The elements are arranged by human action, set in place to run their course and illuminate their relationships. Quarry explores its own ecology with human action as the driving force.
